Frozen Flow
There has not been any significant rain for about a month, and the recent sleet left less than an inch. Nevertheless, there has been an ample flow of water through the Millstone River, despite a lowered level. When I visited the old red mill two weeks ago, there was no flow over the dam, and the placid areas had developed a thin layer of ice.

The mill dam is supposed to control the level of the pond, but that level is now well below the top of the dam. Instead, the recent breach a short distance upstream has opened wider, with a considerable volume of water now briskly flowing past the "bowed tree" I have been photographing. From there, the water passes beneath a small, wooden bridge and into the Millstone River, completely avoiding the dam. I shall keep you posted.
